500,000 tonnes of beets to be destroyed in France

Some 500,000 tonnes of sugar beets will have to be destroyed in Champagne Bourgogne because of non-compliant herbicides. This estimate corresponds to around 1.5% of national production. "After beet yellows and frost, this is a hard blow for planters, but they understand that the precautionary principle must be applied," said Cyril Cogniard, president of the General Confederation of Beet Planters (CGB).
