As the beet farmers' association informed us in a letter to its members, the beet area contracted for 2022 will reach 36,000 hectares. According to Agrana, 38,000 hectares are needed in the medium term for the continued existence of the sugar factory. The large jumps in prices that are currently characterizing the agricultural markets could still persuade some farmers to change their spring cultivation. The forecasts for the sugar market point in the direction that a sugar price for delivery rights beet of at least €40/t with a sugar content of 17.5% appears feasible. This price will significantly exceed the set minimum price. This allows the sugar beet to strengthen its competitiveness compared to other crops.
